Knocking Bradley down at the seventh and ninth rounds, Pacquiao overpowered Bradley in their 12-rounds of welterweight match. This is Pacquiao and Bradley’s third match, wherein Pacquiao beat the latter in two fights. Eleven months after his much talked about loss to Mayweather, there have been speculations whether this fight against Bradley was going to be his last fight as a professional boxer.
According to CBS News, Pacquiao has been quoted to speak about his retirement at a news conference last Wednesday. “As of now I am retired,” Pacquiao said. “I am going to go home and think about it but I want to be with my family. I want to serve the people.”
But according to Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, he’s not going to advertise this fight as Pacquiao’s career finale, although Pacquiao told him that he was going to retire already. On the other hand, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s boxing coach, said that they have briefly talked about this retirement but they were focused on this last fight. However, Roach thinks that Pacquiao can still have more fights. “I do think Manny has more quality fights in him. His power, speed, work ethic are still superior to most others,” said Pacquiao according to ESPN’s report.
As per Pacquiao, he was quoted to have said “After this fight I have already said that my mind is to focus on my job.” This is in relation to Pacquiao’s decision to run for a senatorial post in the Philippines this upcoming May elections. “If I win a senate seat, I have a big responsibility and I need to focus on that… My mind right now says to retire, but we don’t know,” he said.
