Dreams: Hopes and Fears in Sleep or in Waking (A Review)
Poetry. Music. Visual Art.
“What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word dream?” This was the question posted by rapper Quest at the recently held Dreams: Hopes and Fears in Sleep or in Waking last Sunday, May 31, 2015. Held at SOMA Space, Green Sun, the event was organized by different communities of artists — LOGOS, The Upward Project, and DOXA. All three aim to inspire the youth to reach for their dreams through the arts.

The night was filled with exuberance and copious talent was witnessed onstage. Tristan Ortega and Monique Espiritu dazzled the audience with their piece about a realistic utopia. More poems followed from the night’s lineup of spoken word artists. The audience snapped to their heart’s content as they hear lines from the artists’ musings and introspections. Stories about the 90s, personal struggles and triumphs, and aspirations were warmly applauded.

Dreams: Hopes and Fears in Sleep or Waking is one remarkable project. It breaks the young generation from the bar-hopping, gadget-hogging stereotype. It proves that the youth can be spiritual and intellectual. It proves that the youth is capable of doing more.
