  • Imagine a setting where you’re surrounded by the picturesque architecture of old Manila. The skyline made beautiful by the remnants of the old city, you sit with your friends and enjoy music so moving, it rivals the breathtaking sunset you see on the horizon.

That was the Sunset Samba in Intramuros.

Set on the roof deck of the Manila Collectible Co., the Samba School Imperatriz Filipinense, in partnership with Viva Manila, introduced the crowd to the music of Brazil.

The crowd sat on ornate carpets on the floor. No chairs or tables here, folks! The setting was intimate and made you feel as if you were among friends. Warm smiles and a laidback vibe filled the air as everyone listened to smooth bossa music, perfecting the atmosphere. Christine Carlos, along with the members of the bateria, serenaded the crowd with her soulful voice and sent everyone into a trance.

Aeon Mapa then took the stage and started to set the tone for the evening as things started to get a little bit more upbeat. His signature style of music and contemplative lyrics shushed and awed the crowd. It was applause upon applause.

When the sun finally set, the bateria took it as their cue to finally show the crowd what Samba music is all about. Led by the school’s very own Toni Bernardo, the bateria delivered hip-swaying drumbeats and an infectious sound that left everyone on their feet.

The energy was infectious! The samba performers coaxed the crowd into dancing – not a hard feat as the music would creep into your hips, making you sway uncontrollably – and even the little children were into it! No one was safe from the samba beat!

The night ended on a high note with everyone breathless from the laughter and never ending dancing. Obrigada!
