    ——————————————————————————————————————-

We could’ve danced all night long.

The event was the perfect get-together. The moment I arrived in the venue, I heard German music from my youth. Songs from my favorite German bands when I was younger filled the air. It felt very comforting. Pop music from the 80’s was also played. Groups of people were dancing in front of the stage. Some games were played earlier, although I was not able to witness them. Overall, everyone was having a great time.

It felt almost like a Bierzelt (beer tent): fun and laidback. Bier bank and Biertisch (traditional beer benches and tables used during a festival) were all over the place for the use of the guests eating currywurst, schnitzel with potato salad and Frankfurter sausages in buns. Paulaner beers and Weihenstephaner beers, together with Weissbier glasses, were also sold. They could have been more affordable, but the food and beer served were of great quality, so it was at least worth it.

The best part of this event is that there was a good mix of Germans and Filipinos and that they were communicating well. As a German instructor in the Philippines, I was very happy to see my students having conversations with other German people. I think they can both get something great from each other.

I also met a lot of German people who have been living here for a while now. They say that Mabuhay Germany is more than just a platform for companies and people to meet and exchange ideas. It is their taste of home in a land miles away, and I understand why. I really felt that my country was well-represented.
