The Philippine Travel Operators Association (PHILTOA) has organized the Philippine Travel Mart 2014. This year marks its silver anniversary, making it the longest running travel and trade exhibition in the Philippines.
From Sept 5-7, you can catch more than 200 exhibitors such as tourist operators, hotels, resorts, transportation companies, and other tourism-oriented companies at the SMX Convention Center. Check out this cool innovation of the Philippine’s cultural icon—the double-decker jeepney. Built and designed by Filipino artists, it has 40 seating capacity, hooked up with karaoke system for an enjoyable trip. It can be booked for private parties and have a tour around Metro Manila for now.
Apart from the travel components, the 25th Philippine Travel Mart is also a cultural exposition. From Friday to Sunday, there is going to be cultural activities.
Mr. Cesar Cruz, PHILTOA President, also talked about the much anticipated ASEAN Integration 2015 that will help improve the tourism industry in the Philippines. He said that “all the people working in the industry are now referred to as ‘tourism professionals’.” He also addressed one of the problems in the industry. “We have a lot of college graduates of related courses, some even have the right background, but in terms of requirements and necessary entry level skills, the Filipinos are lacking.” They will be launching the PHILTOA Academy (PTA) which will provide a more sustainable program, offering short term courses that will focus on these set of skills. The PTA practitioners will also be the trainers. They plan to launch it on the first quarter of 2015.
