  • List: Hollywood movie releases in the Philippines this 2017
  • 2016 proved to be a great year for sequels and live adaptations as movies like Doctor Strange, Captain America: Civil War, Deadpool, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them made waves in the cinemas. Locally, Filipinos got a taste of a different Metro Manila Film Festival with these 8 gems to end 2016.

However, 2016 also had its fair share of trailers for titles that people have been itching to see on the big screen. Here’s a list of some movies from Hollywood that should already be in your 2017 planner:

    Assassin’s Creed (January 4)

Michael Fassbender stars as both Callum Lynch and his ancestor, an Assassin named Aguilar de Nerha, in the live adaptation of Ubisoft’s hit videogame series.

    La La Land (January 11)

Set in modern-day Los Angeles, La La Land stars Emma Stone as Mia, an aspiring actress, and Ryan Gosling as Sebastian, a jazz musician, who are both looking to turn their Hollywood dreams into reality.

    Fifty Shades Darker (February 8)

Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson reprise their roles as Christian Grey, who’s set to take on his inner demons, and Anastasia Steele facing the anger and envy of women from Grey’s past.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (February 8)

The world’s deadliest assassin is back as John Wick (Keanu Reeves) travels to Rome, Italy where he goes head-on against some of the world’s deadliest killers.

Beauty and the Beast (March 15)

Emma Watson, best known for portraying Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, stars in the latest adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Ghost in the Shell (March 29)

One of the world’s most popular Anime gets some much-deserved time in the big screen as Scarlett Johansson takes on the role of Major in the live adaptation of Ghost in the Shell.

Fast and Furious 8 (April 15)

An unexpected twist occurs in the latest installment of the Fast and Furious franchise as Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, and Chris “Ludacris” Bridges reprise their roles as Dominic Toretto, Letty Ortiz, Roman Pearce, and Tej Parker.

    Despicable Me 3 (June 15)

Super villain-turned-spy Gru is back for a third helping, accompanied by his wife, Lucy, and their three daughters Margo, Edith, and Agnes – oh, and of course, the Minions. This time, they go up against Balthazar Bratt, a villain with a strange affinity for… the 80’s.

    Marvel Movies

Marvel has already mapped out which of their characters will be featured when, all leading up to Avengers: Infinity War. For 2017, Marvel Studios will be releasing Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 (April 26), Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7), and Thor: Ragnarok (hopefully, as its release date has been pushed back to Nov. 3 in the US).

    DC Movies

DC may not have a big movie as a lead-up for the DC movie-verse, but they will be releasing 2 movies in 2017 that will surely be in every fan’s calendar: Wonder Woman (June 1) and Justice League (again, hopefully, though it does go global on November 2017).
