Urbiztondo Beach in La Union: Where waves and surfers meet
It’s no surprise that the surfing scene in La Union has created a platform of opportunities, making it one of the most sought-after places to go to during summer. In the heart of San Juan, La Union lies Urbiztondo Beach, one of the country’s premier surfing spots.
Urbiztondo Beach is the primary spot where you’ll see surfers test out the waves, day or night. Make sure you visit from July to October (South Swell) or November to March (North Swell) as these months are when the waves are at their best.
There are different schools and surfing camps that offer lessons to the locals and tourists who want to learn how to surf properly. One of the more popular schools in La Union is the San Juan Surf School, which was established in 2003 by Filipino-Australian surfer Luke Landrigan. It is the number one surf school in the Philippines and is affectionately known to all as Surf Camp. They offer the finest surf equipment and an internationally-accredited surf training program.
Another surf school in Urbiztondo Beach is the La Union Surf School. Certified by ASI (Academy of Surfing Instructors in Australia), they apply safety and high standards that are recognized globally. La Union local Jeff Ortega heads the surf school together with Filipina surfer Lorraine Lapus.
Although some might think that only San Juan offers surfing other towns also have waves for this activity. Nearby, cities in Bacnotan and San Fernando, La Union as well offer surfing experiences to some.
