Have fun bird-watching at Philippine Eagle Center in Davao
Here’s a sight in Davao you wouldn’t want to miss!
The Philippine Eagle Center in Davao is home to the critically-endangered bird species Philippine Eagle, or otherwise known as the monkey-eating eagle.
The Philippine Eagle
The Philippine Eagle Center houses 36 Philippine Eagles (Scientific name: Pithecophaga jefferyi) with 18 of them being captive-bred. Aside from eagles, you can see here 10 more bird species, 4 mammal species, and 2 species of reptiles. The place is like a tropical rainforest which makes you feel like you are in one with nature. It is also a conservation breeding facility of the Philippine Eagle Foundation, making it a popular tourist spot in Davao.
Pathway to the Eagle Center
The eagles here are endemic to the Philippines and this can only be found in few places in Mindanao, making it a destination to see while in Davao. Guided tours are free of charge but you need to book ahead. It is advisable to have a tour guide so that you can learn various facts and trivia about the eagles in the sanctuary. If you wish to go on your own, you can do so as there are guiding signs where you trail along to see the birds. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes as you enter the premises. Be sure to sanitize so that you do not bring in germs in the area where the eagles live.

The Philippine Eagle Center is about an hour drive from Davao City. An entrance fee of P150 is needed to enter the Eagle Center, and these proceeds will be used for conservation efforts of the foundation. There are kiosks that you can use while in the area. You can also find souvenir shops where you can buy local crafts at the gate.
