  • It is our turn to take care of our environment and natural resources as National Geographic Society-Asia and Forest Foundation Philippines will hold the first Explorer Encounters at in Manila House in Bonifacio Global City on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

    National Geographic explorers, conservation changemakers, and expert storytellers will gather in the first Explorer Encounters event to discuss the theme, “Conservation Storytelling in the Digital Age.” The event is Masungi Georeserve Foundation’s contribution to mainstreaming environment conservation in the Philippines.

    Explorer Encounters is a gathering of local and international experts, organizations, and leaders. The goal is to train conservation professionals and future leaders as well as mainstream a conservation mindset in the country.

    Meet the storytellers

    Hannah Reyes-Morales, an international photographer curious about the stories people tell themselves in the midst of adversity. She is part of MAPS, a collective effort proposing new ways and approaches of storytelling to address the world’s changing environment and societies.

    Dr. Alessandro Ponzo, an ethologist who founded the Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute (LAMAVE), a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of marine megafaunas such as shark, turtles, rays, whale sharks, and their habitats, and;

    Yannick Kuehl, senior director for programs and explorer development in Asia-Pacific.

    Workshop facilitators will include Pia Faustino of Thinking Machines, Issa Tobias of Google Philippines, Vince Cinches of Greenpeace Southeast Asia, and Sally Snow of LAMAVE.

    International photographer Paco Guerrero, founder, and executive of GRID Magazine will host the event while multi-awarded journalist and documentarist Atom Araullo has been tasked to moderate the explorer talks.
