Newer and faster trains to be expected by 2017
The Metro Rail Transit-3 (MRT-3) management plans to bring in newer and faster trains that would carry more passengers by next year.
In an article published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, MRT-3 OIC, Deo Manalo said that two new trains will be arriving in the country this weekend, and they can be used by the first quarter of 2017, as long as they are able to configure the signalling system.
Manalo also stated that the management is planning to upgrade the substation supplying the power to the train lines. Instead of being able to power 3-car trains, the improvement that they plan to do will enable the lines to power 24 4-car trains.
This upgrade, according to Manalo, will be able to accomodate about 800,000 passengers everyday, and it will improve the speed of the trains to about 60kph with a headway of 2.5 minutes, a big improvement from the speed of the trains today which run at a speed of about 40kph.
