  • Heavy traffic has been the daily struggle of commuters in the Philippines. With different modes of transportation—both public and private vehicles—out on streets to accommodate a big population, roads became seriously congested especially in the metro.

To alleviate this problem, the Department of Transportation (DOT) has been exerting efforts to improve services in the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) Line 3 system with the assistance from maintenance provider, Busan Universal Rail, Inc.

Busan spokesperson Charles Perfecto Mercado, said that a maximum of 22 trains are targeted to operate within this month. Also, during peak hours, commuters can be rest assured that 20 trains will be running.

Currently, there are 18 trains in operation during peak hours and a maximum of 20 trains in MRT-3. However, these are still not enough to occupy more than 650,000 passengers daily.

Meanwhile, development plans for MRT-3 are still ongoing as DOT waits for the delivery of power supply meant for the use of 4-car trains. These longer trains are expected to be deployed by mid-next year to increase capacity.
