PH Madrigal Singers win the grand prize at a choral competition in Italy

The Philippine Madrigal Singers’ victory at the 64th International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy qualifies them for the European Grand Prix to be held in Tolosa, Spain scheduled in 2017.

The good news was shared by Chris Millado, the Artistic Director and Vice Ppresident at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, via his Facebook account, August 28 (Sunday).

 “The Philippine Madrigal Singers win the Grand Prix in the 64th International Choral Competition in Arezzo, Italy qualifying them for the European Grand Prix in Tolosa, Spain in 2017. The Philippine Madrigal Singers have won the European Grand Prix twice. If they are successful in their bid in Tolosa in 2017 this will make them the only choir in the world to win the Grand Prix three times! Mabuhay ang Philippine Madrigal Singers! Mabuhay ang artistang Pilipino! (The “Madz” is a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines).” – Chris Millado Facebook

The Madrigal Singers also shared a congratulatory message on their social media accounts on the same day:

“Para sa bayan, sa iyo Ma’am OA, at sa ating Panginoon (For the country, for you Ma’am OA, and for God),” – Madrigal Singers Facebook

“Ma’am OA” is National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion, the late founder and choirmaster of the Madrigal Singers.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers, also known as Madz, was widely recognized after they became the first choir in the world to win the European Grand Prix twice in 1997 and 2007.

Inaugurated in 1989, the European Grand Prix is considered as one of the toughest choral competitions in the world. Only the winners of the six European choral contests can compete.
