    What is K to 12?

Basically, K to 12 covers 13 years of basic education in PH. This includes:

    • Kindergarten to Grade 3

    • Grades 4 to 6

    • Grades 7 to 10 (Junior High School)

    • Grades 11 to 12 (Senior High School)•

Why is PH implementing K to 12 and what are its effects?

According to the Department of Education (DepED), Philippines is the last Asian country to implement this education system and one of the last three countries in the world to do so. Also, according to studies, a 12-year program is known and recognized to be the global standard for students and professionals in the world.

Since there is now an added year in Basic Education, the College General Education Curriculum will have fewer units as these would have been taken up already.

Is the Philippines ready for K to 12?

Since 2011, the universal Kindergarten implementation was begun. Over the years, the enhanced curriculum was also implemented and K to 12 was formally enacted into law in 2013. In 2014, the curriculum for junior high was finished and currently the Senior High is being implemented. According to DepED, they have been ready as they have prepared classrooms, teachers, textbooks, and curriculum in various schools in PH, both public and private.
