Known for her charitable works, Mother Teresa lived a life for the poor. She founded the Missionaries of Charity, which is a Roman Catholic religious congregation that is active in over a hundred countries, having 4,500 sisters worldwide. Also, Mother Teresa received numerous awards, such as the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.

In 2003, six years after her death, that she was beatified as “Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta.” In December 2015, Pope Francis credited Mother Teresa’s intercession which paved the way for her to become a saint as recognized by the Catholic Church.

It was Pope John Paul II who waived the requirement for sainthood that instead of requiring five years after death to establish the case, it has become only 2 years for Mother Teresa’s.
