  • The Philippines, as the world’s second largest archipelagic state, sees fishing as a valuable agricultural business that people in big and small provinces benefit from.

On July 5, 2018, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) had a tie-up with the Futuristic Aviation and Maritime Enterprise, Inc. (FAME) to help boost sustainable fisheries and livelihoods in southern Mindanao.

This partnership brings a lot of innovative changes to the Philippine fishing agriculture. A few of the changes include:

    1. Allowing fishermen to connect with their families, friends, and co-workers while at sea; and
    2. Monitor their daily catch by installing an app specially made for fishing.

Through these innovative measures, fishermen will now be able to ensure their safety at sea and report to their families once in a while. The comfort brought by FAME technology will help their livelihood be viable for local and international market standards.

According to Director of USAID RDMA Bangkok Richard Goughnour, “entrepreneurial and homegrown companies like FAME that are meeting the needs of fisheries managers are promoting prosperity and sustainability in the international seafood trade”.
