  • Grab, Uber set to merge this April 8
  • Both ride-sharing applications, Grab and Uber, have released statements on working together to provide better services in the Philippines and other South East Asia countries. The Uber mobile app will be operational until April 8 and all Uber riders and drivers will have to download the Grab app and open an account to join the ‘Grab family’.

“As one, we will be able to combine our strengths into a unified platform that serves the daily commuting, delivery and payment needs of millions of people across Southeast Asia” reads the statement by Grab sent to their thousands of riders early Monday. Both companies have called this move as ‘Coming Together’ to serve their riders as this would mean a larger fleet of drivers in one platform. This acquisition includes Uber operations in Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. In return, Uber gains 27.5 percent stake in Grab and a board seat for Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi.

For Uber riders who will migrate to the Grab app, data and information will be transferred except the payment information and trip history. Uber promotions will also cease on April 8.

Contact Uber support within the ‘Help’ section of your Uber app, help.uber.com for further questions. For any Grab related questions, you can access support via the in-app Help Centre or at grab.com/help.
