  • KWF to launch Filipino spell checker software by 2018
  • With a number of people who are having a difficulty with regards to the right spelling of commonly used Filipino words, the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF) looks to develop software that will help correct and address misspelled Filipino words which can be used to grant ease to students, teachers, and the general public.

The very first spell checker software that will be developed by the KWF will be launched by 2018 and will operate by highlighting misspelled Filipino words that users type on their tablets, laptops, or computers and provide correct spelling.

According to Ms. Jeslie del Ayre, the commission’s language researcher and a member of the team behind the making of the software, the launching of the spell checker software will help strengthen the Filipino language and pave the way to continuously relive the true Filipino experience.

Upon its launch, the Commission on the Filipino Language aims to make the said software available for free not only to the general public but to both national and local government offices nationwide for communication and transaction.

This project sees the KWF and the National University (NU), who proposed the idea in 2016, teaming up to make it possible. They are hopeful that the said software will entice a number of people to use it to strengthen the Filipino language even more with a pilot launch slated for 2018.
