  • Avoid EDSA on Nov. 8: MMDA sets date of dry run for ASEAN night convoy
  • Thinking of a night-out that requires you to go through EDSA on November 8? You may want to take that rain check because you’re going to be in for a rough drive.

    The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) recently advised motorists to avoid EDSA along with other roads in Metro Manila as a nighttime convoy will be conducted on November 8 in preparation for the 31st ASEAN Summit.

    MMDA will be implementing a modified stop-and-go scheme from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. along the convoy route from Clark International Airport to roads in the southern part of Metro Manila.

    Affected routes for the ASEAN are:

    • Clark Complex in Pampanga; along SCTEX from Clark to NLEX;
    • along NLEX from SCTEX to Balintawak;
    • along EDSA from Balintawak to Magallanes;
    • along Diokno from Entertainment City to Buendia;
    • along Ayala Avenue from EDSA to Makati Avenue;
    • along Makati Avenue from Ayala to Pasay Road;
    • along Pasay Road from EDSA to Amorsolo;
    • along Lawton from 5th Avenue to 30th Avenue;
    • and along McKinley Road from EDSA to 15th Avenue.

    “EDSA will be cleared at certain periods to make way for vehicles carrying foreign leaders and delegates,” said Emmanuel Miro, head of operations for MMDA Task Force ASEAN. Orange barriers will be placed from Balintawak to Magallanes to close off two inner lanes for the convoy run.

    Miro advised motorists plying EDSA to use C5 Road and the Mabuhay Lanes as they will clear out the affected routes.

    “It will be the sixth and final convoy dry run. This time, the convoy practice will simulate night-time scenario,” said Miro.

    He also said the dry run was needed to test out the new vehicles and equipment that will be used for the actual summit in addition to harmonizing traffic plans for the swift transport of ASEAN delegates between their hotels and venues in Pasay City.

    Jojo Garcia, MMDA Assistant General Manager for Operations, said the agency is thinking about suspending the number coding scheme from November 13 – 15 as these were declared non-working holidays for Metro Manila.

    Metro Manila mayors also suspended classes at all levels in Metro Manila for both private and public schools on Nov. 16 and 17.
