LTFRB suspends UBER operations for one month, UBER files MR
Accreditation of UBER Systems Inc. (UBER) has been given a month long suspension by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday, August 14, and was immediately be implemented today, August 15, at 6 am.
Last year the LTFRB suspended the acceptance and processing of applications for all ride-sharing services, including Uber and Grab, to study further how to regulate the industry. However, UBER said that they will continue to accept new drivers amid strong demand for the service, resulting in a surge in the number of unregistered drivers.

In a recent interview with LTFRB Spokesperson Aileen Lizada, it was seen that UBER clearly violated its order to Transport Network Companies to stop accepting applications for accreditation of transport network vehicle services and their eventual approval or activation dated last July 26, 2017, after activating three additional new vehicles the next day.
UBER is ordered to cease and desist its operations regarding their own online booking application during the duration period of the said suspension, even those with certificates of public convenience or provisional authority.

Despite the suspension, LTFRB strongly recommends UBER to continuously extend their financial assistance to affected peer-operators during the one-month suspension solely as an “expression of good faith” for their partner drivers who will be affected by the said suspension.

UBER has since filed a motion for reconsideration with the LTFRB, allowing their operations to continue until the motion is resolved. In a statement, UBER said they filed the motion due to the overwhelming rider and driver demand.
“Over the course of this morning, tens of thousands of riders were left stranded, causing needless inconvenience, while drivers were unable to access the earning opportunities they rely on. We are looking forward to urgently resolving this matter with LTFRB in the interests of everyone who depends on Uber every day,” UBER said in a statement on their official Facebook page.
