The Guided Photowalk tour of the Historic San Sebastian Basilica in Manila will be held on August 25, 2017, from 10 am to 1 pm. The church’s hand-painted interiors, designed to look like stone, are definitely worth a visit for it is the first and only of its kind in the world.

Owned and run by the Order of the Augustinian Recollects, the San Sebastian Basilica is one of the unique churches in the world. In fact, the church was declared a national landmark back in 1973 and was later on listed on the World Monuments Fund’s Watch list of Cultural Heritage at Risk in 2000 and 2010. It was also proclaimed a National Cultural Treasure in 2011 and is a national shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

From design to execution, the Church was an international collaboration. Its interiors are decorated with remarkable paintings of statues and saints, and the basilica itself was meticulously hand-painted to look like stone. Its walls and ceilings showcase the works of artists such as Isabelo Tampinco and Felix Martinez.
