  • Russians show interest in going to PH to learn English
  • The Filipino penchant for English seems to have rubbed off on another country as Russians are now interested in visiting the Philippines to study English as a second language.

Back in April 15 and 16, three Philippine English Language schools went with the Department of Tourism (DoT) to participate in the annual Begin Lingua Fair at the Radisson Slavyanskaya Hotel in Moscow. The language fair was organized by the Begin Group which runs over 20 education fairs in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and India.

The Philippine schools represented at the fair were Subic’s TIMES-SLC and Cebu’s IDEA English Academy and QQ English. Joining them were a team from DoT led by Ms. Renee Marie N. Reyes, DoT’s Head of the ESL-Market Development Group.

“The Philippines has a proven track record when it comes to teaching English as a second language. Many Russians are increasingly being made aware of this and are showing a keen interest in coming to our country to learn English,” said Ambassador Carlos Sorreta.

He added that “the Philippines is very competitive and has top quality teachers and great facilities. Many Russians have already learned English in the Philippines. We will continue to aggressively promote our schools, develop partnerships with education agents and tourism agents in Russia.”
