Pia Wurtzbach chosen as new UNAIDS Asia-Pacific ambassador
Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach has recently been chosen as UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific.

On May 3, 2017, Filipina beauty queen Pia Wurtzbach was launched as The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific. In a photo posted by the beauty queen herself, Wurtzbach signed the official letter with Director of UNAIDS Regional Support Team Asia & the Pacific Steve Kraus. The signing was done and held in Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) in Quezon City.
In a statement by Wurtzbach, she expressed her gratitude in becoming an ambassador for the said cause. “I am very happy to be a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador for Asia and the Pacific. I am overwhelmed. It’s been a dream of mine to work with the United Nations. I will do my best and I will use my voice for this cause.”

Wurtzbach, who was crowned Miss Universe in 2015, mentioned of her interest to help raise awareness on HIV/AIDS during the final Q&A portion of the pageant. The UNAIDS, according to the United Nations, “serves as the leading advocate for global action against HIV/AIDS.” Other notable ambassadors for UNAIDS include model/fashion icon Victoria Beckham, English actress/producer Naomi Watts, Iverian football player Gervinho, and American designer Kenneth Cole, among others.
