  • Flights between Clark and Banaue to start in May
  • What used to be a 10-12 hour trip just to make your annual trip to Banaue and its neighboring towns (Bontoc, Sagada, etc.) may soon be a 5-6 hour trip come May 2017.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) announced the new route at the Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB) in Berlin, Germany as a part of their four-day, three-night special offer to the Banaue Rice Terraces.

Flights to Banaue will be provided by Wakay Air Services and will fly into Bagabag Airport in Nueva Vizcaya, a one to two-hour ride away from the terraces. The flight between both airports will take about an hour.

Tourists can look forward to four flights a week between Clark and Bagabag on board a 38-seater Dornier plane.

“There’s no better occasion to launch a new air route than in the world’s grandest tourism trade fair. This will complement the activities we are promoting in the European market, particularly for travellers who seek cultural immersion in the Philippines,” said DOT Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo.

Dubbed as “the eighth wonder of the world”, the Banaue Rice Terraces is in a class of its own in Asia because of its sheer size and how far it is above sea level. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995.
