  • Filipino-American Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino bagged his first Grammy during the award’s night held on Sunday. The three-time Tony Award winner, along with his fellow producers and cast members, won the Best Musical Theater Album for “The Color Purple”.

    “The Color Purple” team, as listed on Grammy’s website, consists of: principal soloists Danielle Brooks, Cynthia Erivo, and Jennifer Hudson; producers Stephen Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, Joan Raffe, Scott Sanders, and Jhett Tolentino; and composers/lyricists Stephen Bray, Brenda Russell, and Alle Willis.

    Tolentino and his crew were nominated alongside “Bright Star”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “Kinky Boots”, and “Waitress”.

    The Iloilo-born Tolentino is also one of the three Filipinos, aside from Lea Salonga and Robert Lopez, to win awards at the Tony’s. He has bagged the following awards: Best Musical for “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder”, Best Revival of a Play for “A Raisin in the Sun”, and Best Play for “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike”.
