LTFRB approves P1 minimum fare hike, could take effect today
Commuters who often use jeepneys will need to cough up a bit more for their trips as the one-peso fare hike starts today.
This came after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) granted a petition last Monday, February 6 to increase the minimum fare by P1 for jeepneys due to rising oil prices. The fare hike will be implemented in Regions 3 and 4A (CALABARZON) as well as in Metro Manila.
The fare hike could take effect as early as today, instead of waiting for 15 days after publication. In a report published on The Philippine Star, LTFRB board member Aileen Lizada said the fare hike could be implemented as late as Thursday as it falls under the quasi-judicial functions of the regulatory board and is not classified as an administrative policy.
Fare for succeeding kilometers, though, will remain at P1.50 per kilometer after the first four kilometers.
The LTFRB also gave members of the Philippine National Taxi Operators Association (PNTOA), Cebu Taxi Operators, and Panay Taxi Operators to charge a flag down rate of P40 in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Panay.
