  • Ayala Malls promotes sustainable commute through the launch of public electric shuttles
  • Ayala Malls, in partnership with AC Industrials’ Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) and Global Electric Transportation (GET Philippines), recently launched the newly-installed, first integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging and transport system at Ayala Malls The 30th and Ayala Malls Circuit. This partnership aims to make the most impact by providing electric public transport—known as the COMET electric bus—that would minimize traffic congestion and reduce air pollution.

“We have been part of this ecosystem on a global basis, and now that we are contributing locally, we are all the prouder to be deeply involved [in] this major disruption here in our country,” said IMI Vice Chairman and CEO Arthur R. Tan. “We hope to be a catalyst for technology that drives carbon neutrality,” he asserted.

Arthur Tan led the opening ceremony at The 30th, together with GET Philippines President Freddy Tinga, and Ayala Malls The 30th General Manager Pivi Diaz. Meanwhile, the ceremony held at Ayala Malls Circuit was led by Makati Vice Mayor Monique Lagdameo, Arthur R. Tan, GET Philippines Managing Director Anthony Dy, and DOE Director Patrick Aquino.

“This latest innovation you have introduced in our city brings us closer to our vision and complements other green initiatives we have undertaken to promote sustainable development and a healthier environment, such as the Makati Subway. Despite the pandemic, our private sector partners have remained on track with their timelines,” Lagdameo shares.

The EV charging and transport system at The 30th has no public operations and is currently available as private shuttles. More EV charging and transport systems will be installed within January 2022, including Ayala Malls Manila Bay and TriNoma. The electric shuttles are accessible via multiple zones within Metro Manila and Mega Manila only.

“Ayala Land is delighted to be part of this pioneering initiative through Ayala Malls. We are certainly pleased that we are able to provide efficient and modern-day access for the public for them to get to their different points of interest through more sustainable means. This further underscores our desire to achieve a healthier and cleaner environment for everyone, especially our patrons,” Ayala Land President and CEO Bobby Dy states.

    About the COMET electric bus

GET Philippines creates electric shuttle buses called COMETs and works with IMI to deploy a nationwide fast charger network. This allows the COMET vehicles to operate on a near 24/7 basis and service passengers day and night.

The vehicle engineering and electric mobility system is courtesy of QEV Technologies out of Barcelona, Spain. COMET 3 is a fully-electric, thirty-passenger minibus and an ideal public transport for dense urban centers. In the Philippines, they have been operating in Davao and Manila, transporting more than 200,000 passengers in those key hubs. More units are coming in to service Batangas, Valenzuela, and other urban areas by 2022, providing a transportation ecosystem designed to deliver sustainable, comprehensive, and integrated mobility solutions.

This minibus boasts of safe and long battery life with a 20% to 90% fast-charging capacity in just 45 minutes. Multiple features onboard ensure security and better accessibility, including free WiFi, CCTV, and Video Displays, which provide visual and auditory cues for the visually and hearing impaired. This roomy vehicle is also air-conditioned and is GPS-tracked.

    How to become a PASAHERO

Become a PASAHERO by downloading the GETPASS app. Available in various membership packages to suit each passengers’ needs, PASAHEROES can enjoy the ease of public transport with a tap-in and tap-out action. Powered by the GETPASS system, it also provides top-notch convenience by allowing passengers to monitor rides and routes, make payments, and access quick information. Moreover, members can secure points and promos when they purchase from Ayala partner merchants. Accumulated points may be used for free or discounted COMET shuttle rides, and to others who may benefit from the ride.

Moving forward to a greener planet

Beyond its efforts to revolutionize the Philippine transport ecosystem is Ayala Malls’ commitment to promoting sustainable practices that protect the environment and preserve the Filipino community.

“Our commitment to Net-Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 signifies Ayala’s intent to contribute to the greater good and to be a significant partner for sustainable development, a progressive Philippines, and a better world. We are delighted to start this ambitious journey. We will work with all our companies and beyond to take the necessary steps towards significant and long-lasting change,” Ayala Corporation President and CEO Fernando Zobel de Ayala shares.
