FireChat is a mobile app developed by Open Garden that uses wireless mesh networking enabling smartphones to connect via Bluetooth, WiFi or Apple’s Multipeer Connectivity Framework even without an Internet connection.

FireChat became popular for its usage in 2014 when it was used in Iraq following government restrictions and during Hong Kong protests. Since then it has been used in various protests and it can’t be blocked by government. According to app creator Micha Benoliel, he is also planning to turn it into a “full mobile carrier that will never charge for calls and messages.”

According to its creator, the app is going to remain free. Also, the company is planning to add audio capability to allow voice calls to be carried across its network but without the cost of building a physical infrastructure. By using this app it can connect phones and send or download messages just as long as they are not more than 200 feet apart.

With this new smartphone messaging innovation, many people can use this app for very important purposes especially during disaster and other emergency situations. Download now and see what it can do for you!
