  • Mt. Samat Bataan Now Features Augmented Reality
  • While the Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor already evokes a sense of patriotism in its plain, historic stature, it is unavoidable for it to emit a fuller sentiment now that its Underground Museum is adorned by an augmented reality (AR) of the World War II upon which it is built as a form of commemoration.

Before entering the museum, you may choose to rent an Eastmart tablet or purchase an AR keychain card for Php 50 so you can download the mobile app.

Once equipped with either, you just have to look for QR codes overlaid in the museum displays or panels, and then scan them to get a glimpse of short video excerpts from the World War II studies.

This AR experience in the shrine’s Underground Museum is developed by Eastmart Reality Innovators. It is only the first phase of the planned digital innovation so people can definitely expect further advancements in the shrine.

These include the integration of QR codes on the bass relief of the memorial cross, the transformation of the memorial cross viewing gallery’s right wing into an AR room, and the introduction of VR amidst the various facilities in the shrine’s vicinity where tourists can partake in historical role-playing games.

All of these notably follow the Department of Tourism’s vision of putting historical sites into higher regard in the tourism spectrum by means of AR features.

Mt. Samat Shrine of Valor was officially designated as a flagship tourism enterprise zone last 2017, making it one step closer to becoming the premier historical tourism hub in the country.
