Archie and the Gang Pose at Rizal Park on First PH-Exclusive Cover
Thanks to the collaboration of Filbar’s and Comic Odyssey, the first Philippine-exclusive cover of Archie Comics was unveiled on the last day of the SuperManila Pop Culture Convention, October 20.
On the cover beautifully illustrated by Filipino artist Miguel Mercado, Archie and the gang are spotted posing in front of the iconic statue of Dr. Jose Rizal at Rizal Park. Each character sports something that is uniquely Filipino.
For one, Archie is wearing a shirt with a print of a jeepney and Manila on it, while Betty and Veronica are eating the famous cold dessert halo-halo.
Jughead can also be seen eating a stick of popular street food isaw while posing for a selfie with Reggie.
Have you noticed that both Jughead and Veronica are wearing flipflops? Well, Filipinos love wearing these when going for a casual walk in the park.
The cover is seen on the first volume of Archie & Friends Travel, which is a comic series showing the quintet in different parts of the world. It will be on salein the Philippines in November!
“Travel ’round the globe with Archie and the gang! See the world from The Archies on tour in the Philippines to Raj’s documentary in India, a quick layover with Reggie in Rome and finally, B&V getting some royal treatment in Canada,” the synopsis read.
Back in 2017, the Philippines was also referenced in Archie’s Funhouse Spring Annual #26, where Archie’s band called The Archies went on an international tour that stops in Manila.
Archie Comics began publication in the early 40s and has become one of the most known comics in the world. In fact, hit TV series Riverdale is based on some of its most popular characters.
