AI Robot Concierge Coming Soon to SM Supermalls
SM shoppers will soon be able to ask a robot for mall directions as SM Supermalls, the biggest shopping mall chain in the Philippines, has recently previewed two robots equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI) able to provide mall information, promos, and events to customers.

The first SM Supermall AI robot concierge will be deployed early 2019, according to an ABS-CBN interview with SM Supermalls Chief Operating Officer Steven Tan. If it becomes successful, SM Mall of Asia, SM Seaside City Cebu, and SM Aura Premier will also get their own AI robot concierge.

Taiwan firm New Kinpo Group’s local manufacturer, Cal-Comp Technology (Philippines) Inc., manufactured the robots for SM. The SM Megamall robot holds a touchscreen pad for users to interact with but it can also reply using voice to basic questions. Other features include smart voice interactivity and facial detection.

Smart AI robot concierges are currently being used in airports, banks, hotels, and malls in countries such as South Korea, Italy, China, and Japan. SM Supermalls will be the first in the Philippines to adopt the technology to its services.
