  • ‘Humans of New York’ founder holds free events in Manila
  • The man behind the photoblog Humans of New York (HONY) has gone out of his way to meet followers and aspiring photographers on the other side of the world. US-based photographer and author Brandon Stanton visited Manila on February 3, Saturday, and held two presentation sessions at the University of the Philippines Diliman.

By the looks of it, the best-selling author has a huge following even in the Philippines. The venue, Cine Adarna at the UP Film Institute, was filled with eager people who queued early for the event. Stanton held the two events for free and admitted up to 800 people per show.

His shows consisted of a multimedia presentation about his humble beginnings and the history and stories of HONY.

Humans of New York began as Stanton’s photography project in 2010 with the initial goal of capturing 10,000 photos of people in the streets of New York and creating a catalog—which eventually turned out to be more like a photobook—of New Yorkers’ faces and stories.

This time, Stanton is said to be exploring the streets of Manila to capture the humans of the Philippines, which he will feature next in an upcoming book.
