Makati to Launch microchips for Pets
Pet lovers will once again rejoice because of a new project spearheaded by Makati City’s own Mayor, Abigail Binay in implementing a citywide micro-chipping program for about 32,000 dogs and cats as part of its animal identification program.
Starting the month of October, Makati City will be starting to implement their newest program requiring all dogs and cats to have a planted identification microchips within their bodies, making Makati a “rabies-free” city.
This program is free of charge and will be implanted by licensed veterinarians from the Veterinary Services Office (VSO). The microchips will contain information about the animal and its furrent or human guardian, as well as data regarding rabies vaccination acquired by the animal itself. Collected and stored details would be uploaded to the city’s database, which would allow the VSO to monitor and check the number of dogs that had been given anti-rabies shots.

The microchips can not only identify pets but can also prevent theft, increase pet recovery after a loss, monitor the pet’s temperature, aid in disease monitoring, trace their breed and genealogy, and assist in the rescue of animals in an emergency. These microchips are also bio-thermal and as small as a grain of rice, relieving dogs and cats of massive stress they may encounter upon implanting it to them.
The microchip, which will be implanted between the pet’s shoulder blades, will serve as a permanent pet ID and will be read by a scanner making life easy for both the pet and its human guardian or furrent.
