  • LU Surfer Daisy Nerisa Valdez wins in Japan
  • The Philippines proved that our waves may not be comparable to Hawaii and Australia’s but it does have some of the world’s best surfers as Daisy Nerisa Daisy Valdez won the championship title for the women’s Longboard division at the Renextop Asian Surfing Tour (RAST) in Japan.

The 29-year old surfer hails from Urbiztondo beach in San Juan, La Union, the country’s Surfing Capital of the North. She started surfing at the age of 10, and it’s all been training and competitions for her since.

Valdez came in second in the tour’s first stop in Canggu, Bali last June 8 to 11, losing by just over one point against Korea’s Jina Kim. She emerged victorious at the tour’s second stop in Makinohara, Shizuoka-Japan from September 7 to 9. She still has to compete in RAST’s two more stops in the Philippines and China.
