Lawton Avenue Widening Project Started
The so-called #BuildBuildBuild team, composed of the secretaries of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Budget and Management (DBM), National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), headed the groundbreaking ceremony of the Php 458-million Lawton Avenue widening project last Monday, August 21.

As part of the government’s traffic decongestion efforts, the current four-lane Lawton Avene will be converted into a six-lane highway that can accommodate more vehicles and will cut the travel time from BGC to NAIA down to 15 minutes. Adjacent routes like EDA, South Superhighway, and C5 may also be relieved of terrible traffic especially during rush hour.

According to DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, the 3.1-kilometer project will be in two phases: “Phase One, costing Php 458-M, would run from 5th Avenue to Bayani Road; while Phase Two, amounting Php 537.5-M, would comprise Bayani Road to SLEX Interchange.”
The widening of Fort Bonifacio-Nichols Field Road, more commonly known as Lawton Avenue, may cause some inconvenience to traversing motorists in the meantime, but “it is temporary and limited in duration which cannot outweigh [the benefits] of new concrete road that ensures an economical, sound and more stable pavement structure with longer performance period,” said Villar.
