Salcedo Auction’s The Well Appointed Life
History repeats itself in a somewhat cyclical pattern. Possessing a broad knowledge of what has happened in the past, and what is happening presently, allows a person to understand what is coming next, like what The Well Appointed Life, coming this September 2017, has opted to do.
Happening throughout the month of September, Salcedo Auction’s The Well Appointed Life is the first-ever celebration of the world auctions mounted by the pioneer Philippine auction house will take place at the lobby of the Peninsula, Manila.
The Well Appointed Life should not be seen not only as a being simply about the acquisition of objects, but rather about our country’s values, history, culture, and how we see ourselves as Filipino peoples. The auction will bring together over 500 lots expertly curated by various specialist departments.
During the first week of September 2017, The Peninsula Manila, together with Santos Knight Frank will begin with the unveiling of an architectural installation that will pay tribute to the four sale categories highlighted at the said event:
- Important Philippine Art, the auction house’s marquee event which is considered to be the barometer of the Philippine art market;
- Connoisseur Collection, that will feature fine pieces of furniture, objects of art, international artworks, rare books, and valuable maps;
- Fine Jewelry and Timepieces, that will offer investment-grade diamond and statement colored gemstone pieces, and watches from the world’s leading makers; and
- Rare automobiles, that will be showcasing collectible European and American motor cars, housed in the hotel’s lobby itself.

The auction will publicly be available starting the 15th of September and will run through the 22nd of September at the Gallery of the Peninsula. The main feature of the event will be the “auction weekend”, taking place at the Rigodon Ballroom on the 23rd of September, featuring Connoisseur Collection and Important Philippine Art, and on the 24th, featuring Fine Jewelry and Timepieces, and Rare Automobiles.

With regards to the venue, Manila Peninsula was chosen because the hotel itself has been a longtime supporter of the arts, assembling a large collection of art by Philippine masters over the past forty years. The hotel also reflects the rich history and culture of the Philippines thus considering it a “perfect venue” that will house the biggest auction in the country through the presence of The Well Appointed Life. In addition to serving as the auction’s venue, the hotel will be offering its guests an afternoon tea, as well as special menu options throughout the hotel itself.
