  • On August 13, winners of the 13th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival were announced at the CCP Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, wherein media, invited guests, jury, and the cast and crew of each film graced the event to honor the Filipino filmmakers in the competition.

    Ai Ai delas Alaas and Jaclyn Jose in “The Joys and Perils of Making an Indie”

    Prior to the awarding, a theatrical skit was performed by Tanghalang Sta. Ana starring popular Filipino actors and actresses such as Cannes Best Actress Jaclyn Jose, ASEAN International Film Festival and Awards Best Actress Ai Ai delas Alas, veteran actor Lou Veloso, and theater actor Jerald Napoles. The skit, entitled “The Joys and Perils of Making an Indie” tackled about the Filipino independent film industry and the struggles and excellence that comes with it.

    Director Treb Monteras II and the cast and crew of Respeto

    Respeto by Treb Monteras won big that night, garnering a total of 7 awards in the full-length category. Below is the list of winners in each category:

    Best Short Feature Film: Hilom
    Best Director: E. del Mundo, Manong ng Pa-Aling
    Best Screenplay: Duwi Monteagudo, Bawod
    Special Jury Prize: Fatima Marie Torres and the Invasion of Space Shuttle Pinas 25
    Netpac Jury Prize: Aliens Ata
    Audience Choice: Nakauwi Na

    Best Full-length Feature Film: Respeto
    Best Director: Joseph Israel Laban (Baconaua)
    Best Actor: Neil Comia, Jr. (Kiko Boksingero)
    Best Actress: Angeli Bayani (Bagahe)
    Best Supporting Actor: Dido de la Paz (Respeto)
    Best Supporting Actress: Yayo Aguila (Kiko Boksingero)
    Best Screenplay: Zig Madamba Dulay (Bagahe)
    Best Cinematography: Ike Avellana (Respeto) and TM Malones (Baconaua)
    Best Production Design: Marxie Maolen Fadul (Nabubulok)
    Best Editing: Lawrence Ang (Respeto)
    Best Sound: Corinne de San Jose (Respeto)
    Best Musical Score: Pepe Manikan (Kiko Boksingero)
    Special Jury Prize: Baconaua
    NETPAC Jury Prize: Respeto
    Audience Choice: Respeto

    At the end of the awarding, the full-length feature film finalists of the Cinemalaya 2018 has been unveiled: Ang Mga Bisita ni Mamang by Denise O’Hara, Ang Pagbabalik ng Kwago by Martika Escobar, Babae at Baril by Rae Red, Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon by Carlo Catu, Kuya Wes by James Mayo, Liway by Kip Oebanda, ML by Benedict Mique, Pan de Salawal by Che Espiritu, Pilot by Dexter Hemedez and Allan Ibañez, and Pinay Beauty by Jay Abello.
