3rd Annual Metro Manila Shakedrill on July 14-17
Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will hold its third Metro Manila Shakedrill from July 14 to 17 in preparation for “The Big One,” a 7.2 magnitude earthquake that is predicted to hit Metro Manila.

The four-day simultaneous mock drill will involve both government agencies and private organizations. The exercise aims to test every sector’s contingency measures, response and rescue, command and control, communication systems, and recovery-rehabilitation capacity. This is also a chance for businesses to test their business continuity capabilities.
This year’s shake drill is MMDA’s biggest yet. MMDA has been conducting Metro Manila Shakedrills annually since 2015.

MMDA previously launched the Metro Manila Earthquake Contingency Plan, also called Oplan Metro Yakal Plus, which was distributed to the cities and municipalities of Metro Manila. The contingency plan contains a multi-hazard map and updated data on the West Valley Fault. It also includes protocols and procedures in the case that a megadisaster strikes.
