  • The siege in Marawi City has undoubtedly left a mark on its citizens and the people of Mindanao as a whole. Families were displaced, people were left scrambling, and the city has become a battleground between the military and members of the Maute group. The conflict prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to declare Martial Law in the entire island of Mindanao.

    There are, however, people asking about more than just Martial Law and its implications. People started asking for donations and volunteers to help the citizens of Marawi, led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Office of the Vice President (OVP).

    The DSWD, though not directly asking for donations, is willing to accept donations in cash and in kind. They even released a set of images telling people what they should consider donating:

    Apart from government agencies and offices, here are a few more places where you can do your part:

    Student Groups

    Student groups started asking for donations just days after the incident at Marawi. The Tulong Kabataan Volunteer Network, in particular, has called for aid from as far north as Baguio to send donations.

    The lead social service and development ministry of the Catholic Church in the Philippines is calling on everyone who can help to donate in cash or in kind for the people of Marawi City. For those who want to help, kindly click the Facebook link posted above.

    World Vision Philippines

    World Vision Development Foundation (WVDF) will be providing immediate humanitarian assistance to children and families affected by the ongoing conflict in Marawi City to complement the relief efforts of the government.

    They are accepting donations until June 30 via the following bank accounts:

If you’re ever in the area, they are currently holding a satellite office in Iligan City at 12 Guillermo Guevarra Street, Camague, Iligan City. They are near the Mercy Community Hospital.
