  • Famous Filipino celebrity Kris Aquino to star in Hollywood film ‘Crazy Rich Asians’
  • Filipino actress Kris Aquino is the first Filipina to be cast in the film adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians, a book written by Kevin Kwan.

According to an article by Inquirer.net, Aquino will be playing the role of a Malaysian or Bruneian princess. She will be starring alongside Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Sonoya Mizuno, Gemma Chan, and Henry Golding. To be produced under Warner Brothers Inc., the film will be directed by Jon M. Chun, who promised an all-Asian cast for the film.

In an Instagram post, the “Queen of All Media” shared her story on how she landed the part. She said that it was award-winning Broadway producer, Jhett Tolentino, who contacted her through Congresswoman Len Alonte and Manang Nene Chan. In 72 hours, they were able to shoot, edit, and color grade her audition video and video biography. Aquino also said that she underwent 5 levels scrutiny before she was offered the job. “It is surreal to be reading the script from a major Hollywood studio watermarked on every page with my name,” she said.

Crazy Rich Asians tells the story of Rachel Chu, who agrees to be in Singapore for the summer with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young. Expecting to live in a humble family home, having some quality time with a man she may marry, Rachel is surprised to find out that she is dating one of Asia’s most eligible bachelors and that she will be living in a palace-like home. The book is followed with two more sequels, China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems, set to come out May of this year.
