MMDA to open access road between EDSA and McKinley Rd
The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will conduct a trial run of the newly-dubbed EDSA-McKinley Access Road this Saturday, February 18, in a bid to decongest the EDSA-McKinley intersection during rush hour.
Currently known as the EDSA-McKinley Service Road, the MMDA will turn the once one-way street into a two-way access road. Private vehicles will use one lane to bypass the busy EDSA-McKinley intersection while jeepneys will still be able to load passengers from the area.
Private vehicles coming from McKinley Road will be allowed to turn right onto the access road to access EDSA’s northbound lane. Likewise, vehicles coming from EDSA northbound can turn right onto the access road to go to BGC by way of McKinley.
FROM LOADING BAY TO ACCESS ROAD. A trial run will be done tomorrow to see if this service road can be used to decongest EDSA-McKinley intersection.
According to the MMDA, they will only allow three jeepneys at a time to pick up passengers at the existing loading bay located behind the Shell gas station. At present, the service road merely acts as a loading bay for Ayala-Washington and Market! Market! jeepneys, as well as a virtual U-turn slot for West Route BGC Buses to get to the Ayala BGC Bus Terminal.
The MMDA has also asked both Ayala and BGC management to let their traffic personnel undergo training and be deputized by the agency to maintain the flow of traffic in the area.
MMDA General Manager Tim Orbos has expressed gratitude to the Ayala group, which owns the private access road, for their cooperation and support in solving the traffic problem in the area
“I am also thankful to the jeepney operators and drivers who readily agreed to this scheme,” Orbos added.
