Mobile internet speed in PH improves as telcos upgrade
In a report published by J.P. Morgan Securities, Philippines’ mobile data speed went up to 8.24 Mbps, which showed improvements in the fourth quarter of 2016.
In J.P. Morgan Securities’ Asia Network Quality Report, the data showed that the average LTE download speed in PH went up to 8.24 Mbps, from 7.27 Mbps national LTE average in the previous quarter. Compared to Indonesia, PH’s LTE average speed is ahead as Indonesia posts 6.66 Mbps for the same period.
As stated in the report, telecommunications company Smart posted the highest overall LTE download speeds at 9.17 Mbps which cited crowd-sourced data gathered by wireless coverage research firm OpenSignal.
The LTE download speeds across areas, as per The Standard, range from 7.39 Mps in Visayas and 9.99 Mbps in Metro Manila. Also, as per the report, this speed upgrade was the effect of the improvements made by telecommunication companies to their data networks.
