  • Filipino photographer’s book among winners of ‘8 Books from Asia Steidl Book Awards’
  • In a post by steidl.de, Filipino Jake Verzosa, with his book “The Last Tattooed Women of Kalinga,” was chosen as one of the winners in the competition, Steidl Book Award Asia, by renowned German designer, curator, and publisher Gerhard Steidl.

Steidl chose eight books as award winners while describing that “the submissions were all so strong, so surprising and varied, that it would have been unfair to just choose one.”

With this, the award winners traveled to Göttingen, Germany in January 2017 to make their books together with art director Steidl and Theseus Chan. All eight books will be published in a box with the title: “8 Books for Asia.”

Other winners include Broy Lim’s (Singapore) “And Now They Know,” Jongwoo Park’s (South Korea) “DMZ”, Kapil Das’ (India) “Lumpy Gravy,” Robert Zhao’s (Singapore) “A Guide to Flora and Fauna of the World”, Woong Soak Teng’s (Singapore) “Ways to Tie Trees”, Yukari Chikura’s (Japan) “fluorite fantasia,” and Zhang Lijie’s (China) “Midnight Tweedle.”
