  • Two Filipino films continue to make its mark in the international film scene as these will be screened in this year’s Glasgow Film Festival in Scotland.

Known to be one of United Kingdom’s leading film festivals, Glasgow Film Festival aims for their audience to experience the best films from all over the world. In the twelve years that it has been running, its audience increased from 6,000 in 2005 to about 42,000 in 2016.

Lav Diaz’ Ang Babaeng Humayo (The Woman Who Left) and Bradley Liew’s Singing in the Graveyards are two of the films which will be screened in the said festival, alongside The Age of Shadows, Personal Shopper, Neruda, and others which had already established a name in the industry.

Diaz’ film has recently been awarded the Golden Lion in the recent Venice International Film Fest in Italy. It revolves around Charo Santos’ character Horacia, who spent 30 years in prison for a crime that she wasn’t guilty of. The film explores how she seeks revenge to an ex-lover.

Singing in the Graveyard, on the other hand, stars Filipino rock icon Pepe Smith who plays a man impersonating Pepe Smith. When the impersonator version of him learns that his idol is making a comeback, he does everything he could to be able to open and to write songs for him.

The Glasgow Film Festival is set to run from February 15 to 26, 2017.
