France’s Iris Mittenaere is Miss Universe 2016!

Miss France, Iris Mittenaere is crowned Miss Universe 2016 during the Miss Universe Coronation Night held today at the Mall of Asia Arena, succeeding Filipina and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

Joining France in the Top 3 are: Miss Haiti Raquel Pelissier of Haiti, who also won first runner-up, and Miss Colombia Andrea Tovar, second runner-up. During the question and answer portion for the top 3 candidates, all three candidates shared their perspective and they lessons they had after experiencing failure.

“I failed several times in my life. I thought that I failed when my name was not on the list (on casting), but the next day, I found myself in a new book. When you fail, you have to be elevated and try again. If I do not win the crown, I still had the great honor of being one of the finalists,” Mittenaere said.

According to her profile on the Miss Universe website, Miss France’s advocacy will focus on dental and oral hygiene as she has also been pursuing a course in Dental Surgery in the last five years.

Miss Myanmar Htet Htet Htun received the award for Best National Costume in the said event.

Miss Philippines Maxine Medina, although she didn’t make it to the final stage of the competition, made it in the Top 6, along with Miss  Kenya and Miss Thailand.
