Appeared impressed with the modern warships, President Duterte has toured one of the ships with Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, executive secretary Salvador Medialdea, defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana, foreign affairs secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr. and national security adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. They were said to be escorted by Rear Adm. Eduard Mikhailov, deputy commander of Russia’s Pacific Fleet, and Russian Ambassador Igor Khovaev.
According to the deputy commander, Real Admiral Eduard Mikhailov, the joint military exercises would focus on maritime piracy and terrorism. This would be the third military vessel visit of Russia in the country says Filipino Navy’s Commodore Francisco Cabudao.
During a press briefing held last January 6, this week’s visit will include meetings between naval officials, as well as the opening of the ships to the public and Russian tours of historical places in Manila.
