Two community volunteers awarded as ‘2016 National Outstanding Volunteers’
Two community volunteers were recently recognized and awarded as 2016 National Outstanding Volunteers by the Philippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agency (PNVSCA).

Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) received Special Citation in Volunteerism for their 50-year volunteer program in the country. It is also the volunteer arm of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
These two volunteers namely Marcelo L. Gusanan a B’laan leader and farmer from Sultan Kudarat, and educator Ryan Homan won in the adult and youth category respectively.
Gusanan is part of the B’laan tribe, an indigenous tribe from Southern Mindanao in the Philippines. According to Rappler, he worked as a leader and volunteer of Kapit-Bisig sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) which manages community projects in their place.On the other hand, Ryan Homan is recognized for his initiatives in teaching children to read onboard a bamboo raft through “Balsa Basa ,” in Donsol, Sorsogon.
The event was held in Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria in Quezon City, where six volunteers and 3 volunteer service organizations from different places in the Philippines were recognized by the PNVSCA.
