Filipino filmmakers are into another great milestone as they compete in the Silver Screen Awards of the 27th Singapore International Film Festival until December 4.

The Silver Screen Awards was the first international competition with a specific Asian film category; thus charting the rise of Asian Cinema and recognizing the talents of new and upcoming filmmakers, many of whom were to become some of the most prominent filmmakers of our time. Four films that are included in the Singapore fest are as follows: Jet Leyco’s Town in a Lake; and the short films, Rina B. Tsou’s Arnie, Che Tagyamon’s Grandma Loleng, and PR Patindol’s Hilom (Still).

In an interview by Inquirer.net, Leyco sees his work as a conversation between the filmmaker and the viewer. He also sees his participation in the Singapore fest as an opportunity to discuss his work with an audience, other filmmakers and anyone interested to take part in a discourse.

As for Tagyamon, this will be her first time joining an international film fest and believes attending the fest will allow to widen her knowledge about filmmaking.

In Patindol’s Hilom (Still), she describes the film as extremely personal and distinctly Filipino whereas on the contrary, Tsou, relates her short film, Arnie as universal.
