Send-Off to the 42nd SSEAYP Filipino Youth Delegates Held
Last June 18, 2015, 31 official representatives of the country were given a send-off by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan and the National Youth Commission (NYC) to the 42nd Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP). The Philippine delegation is composed of 28 official youth representatives, two alternative representatives and one National Leader.
The opening remark was delivered by JICC Director Mr. Tatsuo Kitagawa who emphasized the importance of good relations between ASEAN countries and Japan. To celebrate over four decades of the SSEAYP, a roster of prominent people graced the event including 42nd SSEAYP National Leader Professor Alfredo Diaz, JICC Researcher/Adviser Mr. Simon Kubota and Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan Mr. Tetsuro Amano among others. The important role of youth in nation-building and prevalent social issues involving them wasalso discussed.
The end of the pre-departure training was organized by the NYC at the Agricultural Training Institute in Quezon City last June 22. Chairperson Gregorio Ramon Tingson, JICC Director Tatsuo Kitagawa, SSEAYP International Philippines (SIP) Chairman and President, Ms. Leah Florentino, members of DayawKalinaw, the official name of the Philippine Contingent to the 41st SSEAYP, and other SSEAYP alumni led the event.
There is also an active participation coming from the ASEAN countries Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. SSEAYP intends to foster good will and friendship between the young people of ASEAN countries by exposing them in various cultural activities and events. The delegates of the 42nd SSEAYP will sail across Japan and Southeast Asia for over 50 days aboard the Japanese Ocean Liner Nippon Maru and will run from October 27 to December 18, with the first port call in Manila, Philippines from November 11 to 14.
