Gashapons are vending machine-dispensed capsule toys from Bandai Namco, a multinational conglomerate from Japan. The name is onomatopoeic, derived from two Japanese sounds: “gasha” or “gacha” for the hand-cranking action of a toy-vending machine, and “pon” for the toy capsule landing in the collection tray. These machines dispense toys in capsules, and what makes them particularly popular is the element of surprise, as you don’t know exactly which toy from a series you will get until you open the capsule.
