Repertory Philippines To Stage Carousel on May 2020

Updated as of March 13, 2020. Repertory Philippines’ Carousel has been postponed in light of the COVID-19 situation. As per the announcement made by the event on their official Facebook page. As per the announcement, the production is slated to be rescheduled sometime in July or August.

The 2020 Season of the Repertory Philippines (REP PH) is looking stacked with four great acts on the way including the musical Carousel, which will be staged from May 1 to 24, 2020 at Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1.

The musical written by Richard Rodgers (music) and Oscar Hammerstein (book and lyrics) is a story about love, redemption and the rapture of life told through its most beautiful contradictions.

It follows the story of Billy Bigelow, a charismatic earthy anti-hero who works as a barker at a carousel, and Julie Jordan, a quiet, complex New England girl who works at a local cotton mill.

With just a momentary encounter under a dark sky and a tapestry of stars, the two are sent into a whirlwind love affair and emotional rollercoaster that will have to endure the crucible of New England society and Fate itself.

TIME Magazine regarded Carousel as the “Greatest Musical Ever Written in the 20th Century.” This masterpiece also features some of the most beloved hits in musical theater like “If I Loved You,” “June is Bustin Out All Over,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”

Theater veteran Gian Magdangal and the returning Nikki Gil will play the lead roles for Carousel. It will be directed by Toff De Venecia.

Tickets for the show are now on sale at TicketWorld outlets and online starting at Php 1,000 for Balcony seats.
